I asked farmer Jonas this week if he had any tips from a farmer on how to deal with stress. His advice was to “take the time to enjoy a nice soft rain.” We giggled a bit at this advice, however, I think the sentiment is important. It is all about taking time to ssslllllooooowwww ddddooowwwnn. So I thought I would share with you some stress relievers that I have found to be helpful to get me through those hard days.

In our world full of tidy gardens, grass monoculture lawns, and orderly rows of crops we have become accustomed to using insecticides and herbicides. All that maintenance, spraying, weeding and pruning is in an attempt to maintain a human aesthetic of beauty and bounty, but those ideals are never found in nature. Spring is here and so is spring butter! At Beiler Family Farm all the cows are back out grazing in the beautiful pastures on fresh spring grass. Right now farmer Jonas says the grass is already about 7 to 9 inches in height, and the cows are sure loving it! All that grass-fed goodness is passed along from the cows to you in the Beiler's delicious milk and dairy products. But what is spring butter, and why is it so special?

This week I am so excited to share with you my experience visiting the Beiler Family Farm! I will first set the scene...after a long car ride I turned around the bend to see the “Milky Way” street sign. As I pulled into the farm entrance the rumble of the dirt road let me know I had arrived. I parked the car and a group of 15 piglets immediately darted across the driveway into the barn to meet their mama pig “Miss Fanny Bacon.” I stepped out of the car full of excitement and wonder as I took in the sights all around me.
